Grassroots Leadership Education

Workshops are offered to Alliance members and can be specifically tailored to fit the
needs of particular communities.

The Policy Institute for Civic Leadership

The Policy Institute is one of the key programs for Georgia Stand-Up. This eight session intensive course is offered twice yearly with an infrastructure solidly grounded in building a “smart network” of local leaders, empowering within to inspire growth without. The participants of the Policy Institute are current grassroots leaders, activists, emerging leaders and individuals from within the affected communities, including elected officials, local faith based leaders, leaders and supporters of academia, activists, parents, youth and community constituents.

The objectives of the Policy Institute are:
  • To develop a common language of analysis
  • To understand the principal forces and dynamics driving economic policy and economic development.
  • To provide background in the historic and present role that government, organized labor, and grassroots organizations play in achieving public policy outcomes that benefit working families.
  • To build a framework for analyzing the "regional power structure"
  • To create the opportunity for leaders working across constituencies to develop new coalitions and strategies

The Policy Institute is held twice a year, either for eight consecutive weeks (when offered on weekdays) or during four bi-weekly sessions (when offered on Satrudays).

Community Enrichment Workshops

Community Enrichment Workshops are sessions that build the skills of labor, community, and faith leaders in areas such as community organizing, community benefits agreements, and analyzing specific economic development tools. These workshops are generally designed to last for three hours and are conducted periodically throughout the year. In addition, workshops can be specifically tailored to fit the needs of particular communities or neighborhoods and provided at the request of Stand-Up Alliance members. For more information on upcoming workshops please contact us.
