Save Fire Station #7 Coalition
September 16, 2008
On September 2, the City Council overrode Mayor Franklin's veto of the ordinance to return funding to Fire Station #7. In spite of this fact, and the fact that more than $1.1 million is sitting in accounts waiting for the mayor to re-open the station, the Mayor Franklin continues to refuse to re-open the station. In the meantime, the Save #7 Coalition continues to organize.
A fundraising even for the station has been organized, and coalition members are looking into opputunities to pressure the mayor.

Councilman Ceasar Mitchell attended Georgia Stand-Up's July 18th Alliance Meeting and answered questions about the fire station and other issues. Several West End residents helped get the Q&A off in the right direction!
Councilman Mitchell initially stated that although the council COULD pass an ordinance to re-open the station, he did not think that was a good idea until he receives some data that he has requested from the Fire Chief.
However, by the end of the meeting, he agreed to introduce "and fight like the dickens" for an ordinance that would re-open the station while the research on whether it should be closed is conducted. He also stated, after some pushing from a NPU-T resident from Villages at Castleberry, that he believed we needed an independent source of that research, as opposed to just relying on the city's data.
